Holidays in Richmond Yorkshire
Richmond Yorkshire was founded in 1071 by the Normans. Described by The Rough Guide as ‘absolute gem’ it offers everything from history to the beauty of the Yorkshire countryside.
The Fleece Yorkshire is delighted to be a part of this amazing town. Built in 1897 we are very much a part of Richmond’s history and hope you will be part of our future.
What to do in Richmond Yorkshire
The town has a wide range of attractions to suit everyone who is on holiday in Richmond Yorkshire. First stop for most people is the opposing Richmond Castle which towers over the town.
Take a stroll along the wonderful River Swale before stopping off at The Station. Once the town’s main railway hub it is now home to a traditional cinema, micro-brewery, bakery and restaurant. Easby Abbey was a firm favourite to the painter, Turner, when he visited in 1797 and 1818. We are sure you will love it as much as he did.
The gateway to the Yorkshire Dales
Although not in the Yorkshire Dales, Richmond Yorkshire is perfectly placed for walkers, sightseers and cyclists to enjoy the Dales. As the largest town to the Yorkshire Dales visitors find Richmond the perfect place to find a great hotel, like The Fleece, and plenty of places to eat, drink and be merry after a long hard day.
Towns like Masham, Hawes, Leyburn, Settle, Grassington and, the world famous, Wensleydale are all within reach. Plus there are hundreds of amazing cycling and walking trails that criss cross the Yorkshire Dales.
Events in Richmond Yorkshire
The town always has something going on. From wine tours and tasting in local vineyards to the annual Swaledale Festival of music, arts and walking in the Yorkshire Dales. Richmond is never too far away from one of the stage of the Tour De Yorkshire.
Plus, it is also home to The Georgian Theatre Royal. Built in 1788 it is the UK’s most complete theatres and has hundreds of shows on every year from classical music concerts to the annual Christmas pantomime. Best of all it is directly opposite The Fleece so we are perfect for pre-theatre dinner and post-theatre drinks.
